Types of IELTS Test

IELTS Academic test: It is intended for those people who are willing to attend the study programs at the top level universities and other institutions of higher education which are being taught in English. you would require an academic test band score so that you could enroll in a graduate or undergraduate degree where the teaching is done only in English.

THE ACADEMIC READING TEST: This is basically a one-hour test that has 3 sections and those sections have 40 questions and are based on 1 reading text per section. Length of the test varies between 2000 and 2750 words. Candidates are provided with a question paper and an answer paper. They are allowed to write on the question paper but they can’t remove it from the test room after a test. The duration of the test would only so for them to be able to clear the test it becomes important to be one hour after that there won’t be any extra time that would be provided to the candidates.

The Texts are usually taken from journals, magazines, books, and newspapers. Texts are for an undergraduate or for a postgraduate candidate. All the reading passage topics would be of general academic interest. Minimum one text would be containing a logical argument. One text might include a graph, diagram or illustration. If there are terms or words of a technical nature, which the candidates aren’t expected to know, then a short glossary can also be provided.


                                THE ACADEMIC WRITING TEST

The Academic Writing Test: The duration of this test is 1 hour. Candidates are required to do 2 tasks. The Academic Writing Task 1 asks the candidate to describe in his own words genuine information provided to the candidate in pictorial form, they could be in a bar chart, a line chart, a pie chart. Candidates are required to write at least 150 words

In the second task, the candidate is required to write an essay on the general academic topic. Candidates are required to write at least 250 words.






                                THE ACADEMIC SPEAKING TEST

The IELTS speaking test is same for AC as well as for GT modules. The test takes place in the presence of 1 examiner and 1 candidate. This test gets recorded as well, and the test is divided into 3 sections.

Section 1The 1st test section begins with general preliminary questions. After this, there are some questions on the personal information these can be considered as the similar questions that are generally being asked while meeting someone for the first time. At last, the examiner asks some questions of 2 topics of over-all interest.


Section 2The2nd test section is a monologue being given by the candidate. Examiner will be giving a card to the candidate with a subject and few questions on it. Candidate must be able to talk for 1 to 2 minutes. The exact length is decided by the examiner. The candidate has a time of one minute so that he could prepare for his talk and a paper and pen is also provided to him so that if required brief notes can be made accordingly. After the candidate’s talk, the examiner will ask a couple of questions.

Section 3In the 3rd section examiner will ask more questions related to subject spoken about in the 2nd section. These questions would be requiring a critical analysis of the candidate’s side.
         THE ACADEMIC LISTENING TEST

The Listening test is the same for GT as well as for AC modules. The candidate would be listening to a tape and answer some questions. Only once the tape would be played. This test is in four sections with 10 questions in each and will go on for 30 minutes.
